Monika carried out her legal studies and the practical time in Cologne and Aachen. During her practical time she also worked at the German-Australian Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne, Australia and the Liaison Office of North-Rhine Westphalia in Brussels. After her practical time Monika started her legal career in the legal department of the Maritim Hotelgesellschaft mbH. 1996 she moved to one of the largest law firms at that time, to Oppenhoff & Rädler, which merged in 2001 with the British law firm Linklaters and changed its name to Linklaters Oppenhoff & Rädler and finally to Linklaters. Most of the 10 years at Linklaters Monika spent in the practice group Information, Technology and Communications with the focus of her work in mergers & acquisitions and international contracts. Besides the office in Cologne, Monika also worked in the Linklaters offices in Berlin, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

In 2006, Monika moved to avocado rechtsanwälte as a partner. In September 2010, she founded the Busch Essers Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft together with Matthias Busch, also a former partner at avocado rechtsanwälte.

The main area of Monika’s work is advising her clients in national and international M&A deals, contracts and distribution law.

Monika is vice chair of the subcommittee Agency and Distribution within the International Sales Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). Monika is furthermore active in the International Team of the German Association of Woman Entrepreneurs, and member of the German Federal Association of the IT-Mittelstand. She is lecturer for Contract Law within the course of studies “Business Law” at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Cologne. Monika gives presentations on her area of law regularly and is author of several legal publications.
